Architect: Arata Isozaki
ALMA Studio was awarded an amazing project, working with world renowned architect Arata Isozaki to manufacture, supply and fit the largest leather mosaic wall in the world.
Advising as part of the design and development team, ALMA Studio technicians became involved at an early stage to deliver a proposal for 7,498 individual, removable leather wall panels to clad the outer curved wall surface of the auditorium situated inside the Convention Centre
ALMA Studio developed manufacturing and fitting techniques by utilising a large expanse of wall space adjacent to its East London Factory. This prototyping proved essential in understanding and finding solutions to the complexities that would be presented on site in Doha.
Alma’s proposal was accepted and 1,698sqm of ALMA Positano cowhide leathers were approved and ordered in bespoke colours developed especially for the project.
Panel manufacturing in London was completed in phases, shipped to Doha and installed by the ALMA Studio fitting team. Each upholstered leather panel was carefully placed on the curved wall surface. Every third panel was notched and fitted around fixed LED lighting protruding from the wall.
This huge complex architectural project was developed and manufactured in London and fitted in Doha over a 2 Year period. Completed on time to great international acclaim, ALMA Studio was able to secure other projects in the region, including highly prestigious leather interiors within The Presidential Palace of Abu Dhabi.
